This video explains the purpose behind the Seeking Paths in Nature (SPiN) curriculum. We encourage viewing this before using any of the SPiN lessons. In this video we cover important topics such as cultural sensitivity. We also give suggestions for how to respect Cherokee culture in your classrooms to teach about it appropriately. The Seeking Paths in Nature project was developed through a partnership between Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Cherokee Preservation Foundation. The Museum of the Cherokee People provides a home for these lessons. SPiN encompasses the focused efforts to enlighten the public, students, and GRSM employees on the history and cultural connections inherent between the Cherokee and the land, currently deemed as Great Smoky Mountains National Park, as well as surrounding communities.
