Trek Through Time

Students will spatially represent modern to ancient time by building a timeline rope of events using era and event hang-tag cards, focused on Cherokee history with a Cherokee perspective.

After this lesson, students will be able to:

  • Compare the relative time periods in Indigenous and Euro-American history to appreciate the resiliency and longevity of the Eastern Band of Cherokee people.
  • Students will interpret facts of Cherokee culture and American history as it relates to the Great Smoky Mountains region.
  • Students will identify the mission of the National Park Service to preserve and protect important cultural and natural resources.

This video introduces the lesson and describes how to plan for the activities.
